Lake East Redevelopment
In July 2008, the Montgomery County Planning Board extended the Land Company’s amended preliminary plan of subdivision for this approximately six acre assemblage of ground on the east side of Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, Maryland, bordered by Manor Road to the north and Chevy Chase Lake Drive to the south. The site, which is currently owned in its entirety by the Land Company, consists mainly of the existing Chevy Chase Lake East Shopping Center (anchored by Chevy Chase Supermarket) and the adjacent parcel occupied by T.W. Perry’s building supplies facility. The Land Company currently is entitled to redevelop the site with approximately 250,000 square feet of retail and office space served by both surface and underground parking.
The redevelopment plans for this property, however, remain a work in progress. In 1999, the Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) approached us about incorporating a station for the proposed Purple Line into any future redevelopment of our property at Lake East. The Chevy Chase Land Company continues to work with MTA toward this end. Thus, any development decisions will be based on market conditions, market demands and transit - oriented development opportunities. We welcome your input via this website (Contact Us).
