Edward Hall Asher, President and COO

Edward Hall Asher is the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Chevy Chase Land Company, and possesses more than forty years of experience in banking and real estate development.  In addition to overseeing more than two million square feet of commercial real estate in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, Mr. Asher is active in business and civic organizations. Edward Hall Asher was Chairman of the Board of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce for 2007 - 2008 and is Immediate Past Chair.  He now serves on the Board of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Asher's achievements at the Land Company include the development, construction and leasing of the Chevy Chase Metro Building in 1986 upon the arrival of the metro-rail to Friendship Heights, as well as the Francis G. Newlands Building in Bethesda in 1999, at that time the first Class A mixed-use project in Bethesda in over a decade.  He was also responsible for overseeing the lengthy approvals process culminating in the Chevy Chase Center which opened in the Fall of 2006.  This landmark 412,000 square foot mixed-use project includes a Class A eight-story office tower with 112,000 square foot of luxury ground floor retail unprecedented in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Asher has been the public face of the Land Company and the driving force behind its development projects for nearly three decades.

During this time, he took on leadership roles in the business and civic community.  In 2002, Mr. Asher chaired Montgomery Hospice's $10 million capital campaign to raise funds to build the first residential hospice in Montgomery County, for which he also oversaw the construction.  He is now a lifetime member of the Montgomery Hospice Board of Directors.  He is a former business representative for the Western Montgomery County Citizens Association, as well as the Citizens Advisory Committee of Friendship Heights throughout the 1990s.  He is the past Chair of the Land Use and Transportation Committee for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, is an elected member of the Chevy Chase Fire Board, is a founding member and Director of the Coalition to Build the Inner Purple Line, now known as Purple Line Now!, is a past President of The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce and a past Chair of the Bethesda Urban Partnership.  Mr. Asher is a founding member of the Maryland Political Action Committee (PAC) for the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and is the Treasurer of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce PAC.  Mr. Asher also represents the Chevy Chase Land Company on the Montgomery County Park and Planning's Master Plan Advisory Group for the Purple Line.  A member of numerous business committees and subcommittees, he is also a life member of the Friendship Heights Rotary Club.

His civic duties have included such positions as an elected member of the Town Council of North Chevy Chase, and Trustee and Elder of North Chevy Chase Christian Church.  In his free time Mr. Asher coached soccer for ten years in Montgomery County including two years for the Academy of the Holy Cross.  A member of the Oldest Inhabitants Club, he is a Washington, D.C. native and lives in Chevy Chase with his wife and five children.
